Flossing is a critical aspect of maintaining good oral hygiene, and choosing the right floss is equally important. In this blog, we will discuss the importance of flossing, the damage of plastic floss, and why biodegradable floss is the best choice for dental care.

Flossing helps remove food particles and plaque from areas that your toothbrush cannot reach. This prevents the buildup of plaque, which can lead to cavities and gum disease. It's recommended to floss at least once a day.

How often do floss?

  • Every other day

  • Not so often

Plastic floss is a popular choice for many people, but it has a significant impact on the environment. Plastic floss can take hundreds of years to decompose and contributes to the pollution of our oceans and landfills. Biodegradable floss, on the other hand, is made from natural materials, such as corn and silk, and breaks down quickly, reducing its impact on the environment.

Aside from its environmental impact, plastic floss can also cause harm to your oral health. The harsh, synthetic materials of plastic floss can cause damage to your gums and enamel, leading to sensitivity and other dental problems. Biodegradable floss, however, is gentle on your teeth and gums, making it an excellent choice for those with sensitive teeth.

To floss correctly, take a piece of biodegradable floss about 18 inches long and wrap it around your fingers. Hold the floss tightly between your thumbs and index fingers and gently guide it between your teeth. Curve the floss into a C-shape against the side of the tooth and gently move it up and down, making sure to get beneath the gumline.

Be gentle while flossing to avoid injuring your gums. If you experience bleeding, it may be a sign of gum disease and should be addressed by your dentist.

When choosing a floss, it's essential to consider the impact it has on the environment and your oral health. Biodegradable floss is an excellent choice for dental care as it effectively removes plaque and food particles while being gentle on your teeth and gums and reducing its impact on the environment.
